Dear Families & Community Members:
Last night, during the Cass Lake-Bena High School basketball game against Nevis, there were multiple incidents of inappropriate behavior by a student-athlete, coaching staff, and fans on the opposing team.
I would like to commend our student-athletes, staff, and fans for doing what they could to maintain a sense of calm while looking to de-escalate the situation. We have been in contact with the Nevis Public School administration about what took place, and we also plan to file a report with the Minnesota State High School League.
We understand that no one is perfect, and sometimes people act in ways that do not align with their values. However, we work hard in the Cass Lake-Bena Public Schools to uphold high standards of behavior and respect in our classrooms and during school events. We expect the same from everyone involved.
What happened last night was deeply disappointing, and I wanted our families and community to know that we are following up on it. At the same time, we want to continue to reinforce and encourage appropriate behavior at all times.
I appreciate your attention to this update. As always, thank you for your support of our schools and the students we serve.
Sincerely,
Sue Chase
Superintendent

A HUGE thank you goes out to our very own SRO, Travis Hemp, on National SRO day. You're awesome sir! We're so lucky to have you.
