Superintendent Search Information

The School Board of Cass Lake-Bena Public Schools is conducting a search for a new superintendent. The School Board contracted with the Minnesota School Boards Association (MSBA) to provide guidance and assist the District with the search.

The School Board met on December 7, 2021 to plan the search. An important part of the search process is gathering stakeholder input for the Board to consider as it moves forward in selecting the new superintendent for Cass Lake-Bena Public Schools, and here are two ways you can engage in the beginning phase of this search process:



A public survey was available for all stakeholders to fill out beginning December 10, 2021 to December 26, 2021. All responses to the survey were anonymous, and MSBA did summarize and provide an overview of the responses for presentation to the School Board.

Hard copies of the survey were available at the District office.



To ensure all district stakeholders have access to accurate information regarding search processes and expectations, MSBA hosted a virtual Q & A with MSBA session at 4:00 pm on Tuesday, December 21. All stakeholders were invited to attend, and the Zoom link was available that day on the District website. To accommodate busy schedules as well as ensure access and transparency, the session was also recorded and is available on the District website for the remainder of the search.

Questions could have been submitted anonymously in advance.  Deadline for submittal of advance questions was Tuesday, December 21 at noon, and questions were also able to be submitted anonymously that evening via the chat box in Zoom.

January 18th: Special board mtg for training, questions, procedures
January 24th: Application deadline
January 25th: MSBA starts screenings and pre-interviews
January 26th: Board starts reviewing applications
February 4th: Special board mtg to determine finalists
February 7th/8th: Special board mtg for first round of interviews. Open to public, no zoom link.

February 11th: Board designee begins negotiations with lone finalist
February 16th: Special board mtg to approve contract
